THE CMU FRIENDS OF THE LIBRARIES

The CMU Friends of the Libraries is a membership organization that supports, through contributions and volunteer activities, the programs of the University Library, the Clarke Historical Library, and Off-Campus Library Services. The Friends plays a vital and influential role in helping the Libraries maintain excellent services, supports and nourishes the academic programs of Central Michigan University, and culturally enriches our community, state, and nation. While the Park Library is new, it must grow and continue to meet the needs of every generation. With succeeding generations of students and faculty, the Park Library will be engaged in renewing its life of service to the intellectual vitality of the campus and community. The engagement and support of the CMU Friends of the Libraries contribute to that renewal.

THE CHARLES V. PARK LIBRARY - CMU'S CULTURAL GATHERING PLACE

In January of 2002 the newly renovated and expanded Charles V. Park Library opened its doors to the Central Michigan University campus and the surrounding community. The spacious, stunning attractive new facility is many things to its many users. It is the home of a million volumes of books and journals. It offers abundant access to contemporary technology that connects library users to a wealth of resources far beyond the Park Library's walls. It is a fertile setting for learning and research, a sanctuary for reading, relaxation, and thought. Sometimes it is a stimulating public space for social interaction, and is certainly an architectural master work. With multiple exhibit areas, auditorium, inviting periodical reading room, and visually compelling spaces, the new Park Library has already become a central gathering place for the University and a striking symbol of its scholarly heritage and intellectual commitment.
